#25 – Action Jackson

So I guess I’ll handle the recap for this week.

Unfortunately I didn’t get any screenshots simply because I wasn’t expecting to do the honors.  Maybe we need to come up with an official routine for who is writing these things.  It could be as simple as do the recap for the movie you chose, obviously it should be put out no later than the following Thursday. Anyway let’s get to it.

I enjoyed this movie.  It wasn’t great upon first viewing, but turned out to grow on me as the week went on, and it wasn’t terrible which leads me to believe it’ll probably end up being rated in the middle of the pack like most of our movies.  Once all of those who attended the viewing actually rate it on the sheet, we’ll find out if that is the case.  Things I loved were seeing a black person taking a lead role as an awesome over the top action star.  This was pretty much all I was looking for anyway so it was hard to miss the mark on that one.  He did all sorts of crazy stuff like tap into his old high school track athletic abilities to run down a car speeding through the city streets, jump on top of said car and smash the windshield with one strike of his mighty fist and just when you thought it couldn’t get any more outlandish, he uses his stereotypical raw African American jumping power to jump over the car as it tries to run him over.

The only thing that really bothered me was how slow the development of Lt. Jericho Jackson’s awesomeness.  It hovers way too long on the mythical urban legend backstory before we get to see him in Action and live up to his namesake.  I guess I understand this pacing once I read on the internet that this movie was designed to be a series of movies and it really sucks that it lost in limbo because Action Jackson 2 would’ve/could’ve been even bigger and badder.  It did well in the box-office at its time but critics panned it as is probably customary for our film choices.  As a matter of fact Vanity who plays Sidney Ash was nominated for a Razzie for Worst Actress.  She lost to Liza Minnelli who did an epic double dip in 1988 and was nominated for playing two horrid roles in Arthur 2: On the Rocks and Rent-A-Cop.  With that kind of dedication it’s no wonder the late great Vanity lost the award.  I still can’t believe she showed her tits to Coach Hayden Fox and not Bruce Leeroy.  Goins I think it’s time for you to choose The Last Dragon.

Anyway its Chris J’s turn this week and he’s hinted at The Wraith or The Naked Truth.  Which one will we watch?  I might be running a little late tonight, I’m flying solo with the kids so I have to do bedtime for the two knuckleheads so I might be closer to a 9pm.  I can get on early to download the film that is chosen and post a link to my Google drive if it’s necessary for me to handle the hosting duties tonight.

the reason he says “HI IM MR ED” is that the character’s name is Edd.
