#86 – The Disaster Artist

Movie Fellows,

We are back! For how long no one knows! To celebrate our hiatus we watched a ‘good’ movie!

We’ve also been away from rabbit for so long that they made a bunch of improvements. We used the chrome plugin to stream the movie from my google drive and it didn’t crap out every 15 minutes like it did in the past. New addition Randy did get chosen by the cruel finger of Rabb.it to have the shitty connection.

Recap.

This is the rare occasion that I’ve actually read the book that the movie was based on before seeing the movie. Just like always, there’s so much more in the book. I think the story in the book is better because it leaves a little more to the imagination on Tommy and Greg’s relationship. I mean the big beats are all still there, but I felt Greg just seemed a little wimpy or passive. Maybe when Tommy’s actions aren’t right in your face, it seems more reasonable. (the weird moving out reaction, the sex scene)

They cut a bunch of the detail stuff that I feel makes the book make ‘The Room’ more enjoyable. The spoons pictures, the actors leaving and being recast (peter), the actors getting fired (original greg). But they left all the stuff that makes it a story about Greg and Tommy (I wrote this for you, except you didn’t cast him originally)

What is left is a good movie, it’s an exploration of why someone would be friends with a weirdo like Tommy. In some aspects I think all guys have a friend like that (to a lesser extent!) someone you met in college or high school who you stick by even though your reasonable adult friends can’t figure it out. Maybe that person will eventually get it together, or maybe they will fail so hard that they make you famous along with them.

I also literally forgot to take screenshots.

But anyway, how’s your sex life?

If we are going to get this back on track, it’s Q’s pick this week.
