Podcast 006 : Meatballs 2

This week we discuss an 80’s comedy cashgrab that is so mixed up and confused about which kind of movie it wants to be that it never really gets started and then it’s over. Mercifully, thankfully, over.

When you hear that this movie actually has nothing to do with the 1979 movie “Meatballs” beyond the studio slapping that name on there, you are actually relieved. But then you’re still left with whatever this actually is. Is it a slightly raunchy ET ripoff? Is it a teen sex comedy? Is it a ‘the kids have to work together to save the camp’ movie? is it the military kids vs the… normal kids movie? Is it a poorly cobbled together stew of tropes and cliches? YES!

1960s

Dork, when used to refer to a socially awkward or inept person, is a relatively recent word: our records indicate that it first appeared in writing in the 1960s. Two of its synonyms in this sense are likewise of fairly recent vintage

This movie could have been great! If only they had cut half of it and rewritten the rest! But they didn’t so we are left with this artifact of studio greed and inept screenwriting. Dont blame the actors though, they all look like they are having a good time trying to trudge their way through this thing.
