What about Bob… what about him anyway? This movie is considered a comedy classic. Is it thought of that way because it’s a good movie or because Bill Murray is a genius and Richard Dryfuss is incredible at acting annoyed? Its a staple of 90’s Family VHS collections but does it hold up to 2 Dads in 2025? Lets Find out!
Dark comedies are a hard pill to swallow for some people. It’s a fine line when you are dealing with unlikable characters in crazy situations. Usually you need to find a way to identify with them, but not in this one. Are we supposed to see Dr. Leo Marvin as an uptight egomaniac who needs to be taken down a peg? Are we supposed to hate Bob so much that we enjoy seeing Dr Marvin snap and blow Bob up with dynamite? IDK, it’s a wild ride.
But this is a well made movie with great performances and that goes a long way. I had a much better time talking about this movie than I did while watching it and that feels pretty good.
