Where to begin my kung-fu masters?
Last week, in honor of everyone’s favorite month long national remembrance, we watched Black Belt Jones. It had kung-fu, it had car chases, it had rape, it had a car wash, it pretty much had everything you could ever want in a 70’s blaxploitation classic. Except tits and ass, with exception of the briefest of nudities as a random exhibitionist couple scampered from their love tent on the beach, which was only to be replaced with the most playful and passionate rape sequence cinema has ever produced.
I really enjoyed this flick and was pretty glad that it held up. There is nothing worse than getting excited for our weekly movie choice and totally getting let down. Some of my favorite takeaways were the endless slow motion flipping and surprise judo chops. The car wash scene that should’ve really ended in a mass murder bloodbath as Sydney “Cookie Monster” Byrd comically throws all of the defeated enemies in a trash compactor and playfully turns it on. And all of the random ass cliché kung-fu grunting and screaming that was added in for each fight scene. Pretty much the only thing missing was dubbed voices.
This week is Shibs’ pick I think from all of the back and forth earlier in the day. I can’t wait until Thursday. Sorry I didn’t take any screenshots so Mark will just have to attach his to the thread.

Movie night sidetrack…
SO I know you dads said that the baby poop changes when you reach the solid food stage. Which I am totally on board with. But yesterday Emelia bumped a load out that smelled EXACTLY like Orville Redenbacher’s Movie Theater Butter popcorn. Are we good?
Confused in Oregon.

Black Belt Jones is a 1974 American blaxploitation martial arts film directed by Robert Clouse and starring Jim Kelly and Gloria Hendry. The film is a spiritual successor to Clouse's prior film Enter the Dragon, in which Kelly had a supporting role. Here, Kelly features in his first starring role as the eponymous character; is a local hero who fights the Mafia and a local drug dealer threatening his friend’s dojo.
