#29 – Punisher: War Zone

So last week the hyper violence continued.

Thanks to Suleman who was gracious enough to choose this shoot em’ up killer movie, only to not bother to show up, we got to watch one of Marvel comics darkest characters come to life in vivid face punching, head exploding, chandelier twirling color.

The movie was very enjoyable even though it did have some slow parts.  During these transitions in between action we were treated to basically comic book style dialog where whole sentences are a no go, and a conversation takes place in a series of phrases.  They were coherent phrases and the plot development didn’t suffer or anything, and just when you start to get bored you’re slapped in the face with another insane death that defies realism in any sense and it was glorious.

Seriously there are so many “holy shit” moments I don’t think I can list them all.

All I know is I’m not going to sneak off to do bumps of cocaine anytime soon and I know better than to insult a man in his own house.  Especially if this man’s name is Jigsaw and has a skin patchwork quilt for a face and his right hand man’s name is Loony Bin Jim.

I feel like if you like The Punisher, meaning the character and his comics, then you should enjoy this movie because that’s literally all the director did was study comics and interview a bunch of fans in order to prepare for making this film so it’s an ode to them.

This week’s pick goes to Goins, since we are now out of Action August it’s on to September or as I like to call it Softender: The Fall of Love.

It’s nothing but Rom-Coms until we get our inevitable injection of horror flicks in October.

Punisher: War Zone is a 2008 superhero film[5][6][7][8] based on the Marvel Comics character the Punisher, directed by Lexi Alexander. The film is a reboot that follows the war waged by vigilante Frank Castle (Ray Stevenson) on crime and corruption, in particular on the disfigured mob boss known as Billy "Jigsaw" Russotti (Dominic West), rather than a sequel to 2004's The Punisher.[9] It is the third feature film adaptation of The Punisher, the second reboot thereof and the first of two films to be produced under the Marvel Knights production banner, which focuses on films for mature audiences. Punisher: War Zone was released in North America by Lionsgate on December 5, 2008, and it was released in the United Kingdom on February 6, 2009. Its related soundtrack hit the #23 slot on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart.

It was the final Punisher film to be produced by an outside studio before the rights reverted to Marvel Studios, with Stevenson reprising his role as Castle in The Super Hero Squad Show. A television series was later released on Netflix in 2017 and is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
