Movie Men at Arms,
I totally thought today was Wednesday.
Last week we continued the tradition of ruining our childhoods by shining the harsh light of reality on them (or making the older members of the group wonder what is up with our taste) by watching the 1987 Canon films ‘classic’ Masters of the Universe.
I got to say that initially the movie holds up well, Dolph makes a great He-man even if he can seemingly barely speak English (even though at that point he had a masters in chemical engineering, Look it up, Fools). The costumes are decent, except for mini-Liberace’s hair. The future Mrs Arquette is nice to look at and for a good 45 minute stretch you think… maybe this movie isn’t as bad as I’ve herd… but then the final act creeps into view.
The budget must have run out because Skeletor rolls into any-town USA on a giant candelabra going the speed of a parade float. All while He-man flies around on a manhole cover. It just never ends.
pew pew laserfight!
Then there’s the final fight where they have to film it in slow motion to make it look like a 49 year old Frank Langella can hold his own against the 1981 European karate champion.
Lessons, learned!

Masters of the Universe (also known as Masters of the Universe: The Motion Picture) is a 1987 American science fantasy action film directed by Gary Goddard, produced by Yoram Globus and by Menahem Golan and written by David Odell. The film stars Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella, Jon Cypher, Chelsea Field, Billy Barty, Courteney Cox, Robert Duncan McNeill, and Meg Foster. It is based on the Mattel toy line of the same name and tells the story of two teenagers who meet the mighty He-Man, who arrived on Earth by chance from planet Eternia and now goes on a mission to save the universe from the mighty evil Skeletor, his nemesis.
Masters of the Universe was released theatrically in the United States on August 7, 1987. It was a critical and commercial failure, grossing $17 million worldwide against a budget of $22 million, but is now regarded as a classic cult film.[6][7][8]
