Movie Commandos,
Again this last week we watched a movie that I hadn’t seen before, a classic from the 80’s called “Deadly Prey”. It wasn’t the most perfect bad movie ever but it did have it’s moments and oh God did it have the best jorts.
Recap!
We open on some woods, somewhere outside LA where a man is running through the woods. It turns out that he is being hunted by a small army, the guy that’s leading the hunt is one of those 80s villains that isn’t the strongest or coolest guy, buy he probably knows the director or something. Think Bennett from Commando. The runner is finally killed, and the real leader of the hunt, the commander of the army says, ‘bring me a mean one this time’
Smash cut to a blonde mulleted guy making breakfast in a kitchen with his girlfriend. He goes out to take the trash out, he is wearing a grey sweatshirt and cutoff Jean shorts…this grey sweatshirt will never be seen again. A van pulls up and drags the blonde man inside.
He wakes up tied to a chair and I think is explained the plan, We Gonna Hunt You! He runs off into the woods with no shirt and no shoes, just bounding around like the most muscular baby you’ve ever seen. Little do they know… that he’s the Deadliest Prey they’ve ever hunted.

Instantly he starts killing every person who gets close to him, just stabbing them in the neck with twigs and getting the drop on them with his skills. Never picking up any of the guns just stabbing fools left and right. Then there’s a mano-a-mano fight between “The Bennet” and “Jort Mullet” which they karate and punch it up pretty good. There is a side bit where his girlfriend calls her dad to help. Hes some kind of small town sheriff and shows up with a shotgun to make things right. He takes out a few bad guys but is ultimately killed.
Meanwhile the army realizes what they are up against. And the leader realizes that he had trained Jort Mullet in the army. He tries to recruit him… This does now work. But his backup plan is to kidnap his girlfriend and rape her. So if you had rape on the bingo card fill that out. Dark.
Jort Mullet does manage to turn the second best guy in the army to his side. and they fight like brothers, of course there is a sweet handshake-grip shot like in COMMANDO. They find a HUGE cache of every imaginable rocket launcher, machete, mines, grenade and gun you can think of. So they set out to make an elaborate system of traps. Somehow the army guys give them time to do all this and none of them ask, hey are we missing a missile launcher? and this guys killed about 40 of us with a bunch of sticks… should we do this?
They do this… and are completely slaughtered every time. Army Brother is killed trying to rescue the girlfriend and in a sort of ‘left turn’ the girlfriend is killed execution style. Tt ends with Jorts McGee chopping the other guys arm off and beating him with it and then scalping him. Classic.
Jorts then tracks down the leader of the army, but he’s so pissed that he doesn’t actually kill him. he lets him go and tells him to take off his shirt because he’s going to hunt him. He should have said shoes too… weak.
It’s a pretty good movie night film. If you watch that recap it seems like it’s the best movie ever… but like most things there’s a LOT OF FILLER… that’s just boring.Bbut there is some GREAT bad acting, some good weird characters, and he does beat a guy with the wet end of his own severed arm.
The recap might not be completely right, I waited a long time and then lost a draft on gmail.

Deadly Prey[1] is a 1987 film that was first screened in the United States in November 1987 at that year's American Film Market. After The Winters Group helped finance David A. Prior's previous film Aerobicide, Prior, along with executive producers David Winters and Bruce Lewin, and producer Peter Yuval formed Action International Pictures and their first projects were Mankillers and Deadly Prey. Both shot back to back in and around Riverside, California, Deadly Prey tells the story of a former soldier (played by Prior's brother Ted) who is kidnapped for participation in a human safari. This film, which has some resemblance to the action filmFirst Blood (1982) starring Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo, was officially released on DVD and Blu-ray in 2015.
