Movie Earth Heroes,
We did it again this week. Movie night in general, but also we watched a movie that has been on the list so long that they have completed and released the sequel in the meantime. It ranged from serviceable comedy to very funny at some points. If you’re looking for some good pg-13 family friendly comedy its a safe bet.

Recap
Some time ago the government receives a signal that tells them that an alien race is coming to destroy them. But the senders of the message, the antareans?… are going to send a power suit to help. But they don’t send it right away.. they’re going to wait like 30 years. Smart move! So the government starts a program to train the ultimate champion. There’s nothing funny in this backstory…
So on the day the battle suit is supposed to arrive in this small Texas town… the local Sheriff is doing hit shitty ass job and has to rescue the local star quarterback from a rowdy party. He ends up arresting him, but while driving away he notices two dumb locals launching fireworks into the sky. he pulls over to see what’s up and finds out that it’s two guys he knew from high school. They launch the largest Wil-E-Coyote bottle rocket you’ve ever seen and accidentally shoot down the UFO passing overhead.
Inside the crashed spaceship they find the power suit… think the mega man suit… actually REALLY THINK THE MEGA MAN SUIT. They are idiots and try on the pieces. helmet, boots, laser gun arm, shield arm. Which instantly attach to their bodies. This is the plot. They are idiots, they now each have one piece of a super suit.The quarterback gets the ‘laser.. rocket.. arm’ and posts a selfie with the caption ‘LAZER TEAM’, thus getting them their name.
they are rounded up by the gobment and tried to get trained up on their new skills…. blurgh… this recap is taxing.
you get it. they suck, they shoudln’t be there, plus I don’t want to ruin anything… right?
Speed round!
- This movie should be funnier.
- The sheriff’s daughter is wayyy to hot for this story.
- There are some funny, they are so fat and out of shape moments
- How does the helmet guy eat… never addressed
- Having a blaster gun on your right hand PERMANENTLY seems terrible
- The scene where the sheriff just kind of sits there while he thinks the quarterback is banging the ever loving crap out of his daughter in the next room… ugh. (but she’s possessed by an alien, so it’s OK)
- My favorite joke in the whole thing is probably a running gag where they are only called Lazer Team because the guy with the laser arm named them. So the guy with the boots is constantly yelling ‘Boot Group!’ when they do something good. Then at one point when they are arguing he mutters “What has happened to Boot Group?”
- They learn that they can do weird things with the ‘separated’ suit, like make the shield bigger… by cupping that guys balls….
- Best ‘so bad it’s good’ part for me is the soldiers doing Mime work on that invisible wall. just loved that for some reason.
- That totally was the lead singer of Bare Naked Ladies as the reporter.
Overall it was an enjoyable movie. It’s not perfect… but it’s a decent watch.

Lazer Team is a 2015 American science fiction action comedy film directed, produced, and co-written by Matt Hullum. The first feature film produced by Rooster Teeth, it stars Burnie Burns, Gavin Free, Michael Jones, Colton Dunn, Allie DeBerry, and Alan Ritchson. The film follows the Lazer Team, a group of four who find themselves responsible for the fate of the planet upon discovering an alien crash site containing a battle suit.
The film was produced by Hullum, Burns, and Doreen Copeland. Burns and Hullum also co-wrote the script, alongside Rooster Teeth employees Chris Demarais and Josh Flanagan. Funding for Lazer Team was largely raised through a successful Indiegogo campaign, raising over $2.4 million in a month. Filming began in October 2014, with principal photography taking place in Austin and New Mexico.
Lazer Team premiered at Fantastic Fest on September 24, 2015. Through Amplify and Tugg, the film was theatrically released on January 27, 2016, as a cinema-in-demand model. The film was also released onto YouTube Premium the same day, as well as being added to Rooster Teeth's FIRST streaming service on November 3, 2017.[4] Lazer Team received mixed reviews and grossed $1.6 million on a $2.4 million budget.
