Son in Law is a Pauly Shore movie from 1993. A time when this infectious little weasel was about to be everywhere on TV and movies for a precious short amount of time. Was he someone that should have captured the minds of the young people around the world? Was he someone that we both were even aware of? Find out more on this exciting episode.
This is our first entry into the “Pauly Shore-a-verse”, there might be others in the future. After a supporting role in Encino Man the year before this was his first leading role, I for one think he does a pretty good job. He’s just playing “The Weasel” like he always does, but I think at this point in his career there was probably little difference in his persona and his real personality. Also, I’m not a Pauly Shore scholar, I only majored in Shore Studies for one semester.
This is a major Hollywood movie targeted at a broad audience, so I it’s mostly non-offensive (for 1993) and we both think it holds up pretty well considering what it could have been!
Crawl is an outsider, but he’s (almost) always a nice guy who’s having fun and wants everyone else to have a good time also. He’s a party facilitator, an emotional sherpa, a connector of generations and the original Rizzler. You need someone nice at the center of this mostly generic “fish out of water” story and I think Crawl is a nice guy who tries hard and wins over these inbred South Dakota hicks… jokes!

Aged Like the Finest Cheeses
Do I NEED to point out that these women have aged incredibly well? Do I WANT to… YES. They have also been constantly in the public eye for 30 years and have had great careers, that takes more than a pretty face, it takes talent. Give them a follow on Instagram and see what they’re up to.

If you want more information about the movie and possibly a better podcast than ours, I suggest watching this episode of Pauly Shores podcast where he interviews Patrick Renna about the film.

Although it became a box-office success, the film received mixed reviews from critics, but has since become a cult classic.[2]
