A night to remember the classics.
Movie Janitors, Oh man we did it again. We let Cote pick… and he chose a Troma movie again. We watched “The Toxic Avenger” the movie that pretty much started the Troma-verse. I’m not such a fan of these films. I think its the weird combination of low production values, horror effects and weird humor that just doesn’t click with me. But I see the draw… if you leave out the humor you have that movie “Street Trash” we watched, which was… difficult.
Movie Earth Heroes, We did it again this week. Movie night in general, but also we watched a movie that has been on the list so long that they have completed and released the sequel in the meantime. It ranged from serviceable comedy to very funny at some points. If you’re looking for some good pg-13 family friendly comedy its a safe bet.
Movie Commandos, Again this last week we watched a movie that I hadn’t seen before, a classic from the 80’s called “Deadly Prey”. It wasn’t the most perfect bad movie ever but it did have it’s moments and oh God did it have the best jorts.
Movie Linemen, Last night we watched a very important film. A film with very big stars and the best of plot. We watched Ivy’s inaugural pick, the 2016 Travolta opus, Life on the Line. In the grand tradition of Movie Night… this was a terrible movie. In the ‘rush’ of this movie, I forgot to take any screenshots. Which is probably good since the only thing funny about anything is Travolta’s facial hair. Which could be described as a scared Halloween cat smashed against his chin. This movie is so sincere, every moment just oozes saccharine sentimentality. Some things that you should know going in.. Kate Bosworth is currently 37, Devin Sawa is currently 40. Is this what we look like now?!
Movie Rat-Monkeys, Jesse joined us for a movie night for the first time since… some movie… if you can remember what it was, I’ll give you credit on the sheet.This week we watched an all time classic from an Oscar winning filmmaker. This is a 100% true statement! We watched “Dead Alive” (aka Braindead) from Peter Jackson. Yes, ‘Lord of the RIngs Peter Jackson’, He started his career in New Zealand making these weird comedy gross horror movies. (bad taste, dead alive, meet the feebles) before making a normal movie called heavenly creatures and then ‘the frighteners’ with Micheal J Fox. the real question is how he landed LOTR with that resume?! Anyway. It was a small group, but 2/3 hadn’t seen it, so that was good. It was Erskine’s pick, but he can’t stay up later than my 2 year old baby, so he bailed at 6:51pm.
Movie Ninjas, 106.5 because we did watch the first episode of the youtube series ‘Wayne’ last week. Well we did a thing. We watched the FP again and then watched THE FP 2 : Beats of Rage. I’m probably not going to have a great recap of the FP2 because I had about 6 beers by then and it all kind of flowed together by the end. I have to be honest, seeing it with Q did open my eyes a little. Maybe I’d just gotten a little complacent and just really wanted to like the movie based on the concept and craziness. But I guess I glossed over the copious use of ‘nigga’ by white people through out the movie. I’ve tried to research some of the reasons/excuses that Trost has given for the use in the first movie. They all seem to be basically what he told Q. I was trying to say something
Movie Wolves, Well, we did it again. We unpacked a weird one tonight. We checked off one that has been on the list since the beginning and on my personal Netflix watch list since it was still on Netflix. We screened the 2014 opus… WOLFCOP. Facts, I can’t find many interesting facts about this one. It’s Canadian and it’s seemingly marketed at that 1980’s nostalgia market. You want that stupid 80’s movie vibe but you also are living in 2014, well do I have the movie for you.
Movie Bachelors, Last week we watched a Tom Hanks movie that included a character called Max the Sexual Mule, It was the Green Mile… lol. NO! it was Bachelor Party. Now I would argue that all Mules are sexual, but that is not the point. The point is that the 80s were a weird time. A time when attempted rape was a joke and as long as you didn’t have sex with them you could have as many hookers at your bachelor party as you wanted.
Movie Chumbawumbas, This week we showed the 2012 classic “The FP” to some new unsuspecting members. I believe it’s firmly a movie that is better to quote later than to actually watch the first time. Unless you see it in theaters where other people are laughing at the questionable directions the plot takes. It’s not a perfect movie, but it’s just wacky enough to hit the sweet spot for me. Bad acting (on purpose?) weird dialog, weird plot, but it looks way better than a movie filmed for 45K should look.
